Law & Order

  • Hastings Arrest: A 30-year-old Hastings man faces 29 charges including recruiting children, supplying drugs to minors, burglary, and resisting police. Alleged offences spanned Mount Eliza, Mornington, Mount Martha, Bittern and Somers. He’s remanded in custody, with a court date Sept 4.

Development & Economy

  • Frankston Transformation: Council has approved the $91m Pace Development on the old cinema site. A 14-storey tower with 144 apartments, retail, hospitality and wellness centre is part of a $500m private investment wave, alongside the $1.1b hospital rebuild.

  • Business Forum: Frankston Business Collective’s annual forum at the Arts Centre was a sell-out, the biggest ever. Executives and experts shared insights to help local business adapt to the region’s transformation.

Politics & Council

  • Peninsula Delegation to Canberra: MPs Jodie Belyea and Zoe McKenzie are taking a united Frankston–Peninsula group, including both mayors, to Canberra. They’ll push for federal support on Somerville, Rye and Hastings commitments, better transport, housing, and infrastructure.

  • Shire Restructure: Mornington Peninsula Shire has announced a major restructure that could see up to 48 job losses. CEO Mark Stoermer says it’s needed for long-term financial stability. Consultation runs until mid-September.

Community & Social

  • Fresh Food Van: Mornington Community Support Centre has a new Toyota HiAce, thanks to Rotary and the Bendigo Community Bank Mount Martha. The van will deliver food to 100+ families weekly and support the café’s 800 meals a week.

  • Homelessness Response: Mornington Peninsula Shire, with YWCA and Women’s Property Initiatives, will deliver 17 new homes for women and children in Mornington and Hastings. The council has contributed land worth $3m+.

  • Recycling Trial: Shire launches a 12-month trial with 90 “exchange baskets” next to public bins. Locals can drop off or collect drink containers for a 10-cent refund, aiming to cut litter and boost recycling.

Health & Safety

  • GoodSAM App Saves Life: A Mornington Peninsula man survived cardiac arrest thanks to the GoodSAM app, CPR from his wife, and quick action by a neighbour paramedic. Ambulance Victoria urges locals to download the app — early defib doubles survival odds.

Events

  • Mayday Cruise: On October 18, the Mayday Cruise will raise funds for 11 local charities — from surf lifesaving clubs to men’s sheds. Guests will enjoy live music, food, and a sunset sail.
