Could Meals on Wheels stay on the Peninsula?

The Shire planned to stop delivering Meals on Wheels and two other aged care services next July. Now a federal funding extension has prompted councillors to reconsider.

On Tuesday, they’ll decide which options to pursue—including keeping Meals on Wheels until 2029

The Shire decided in June to stop delivering the services next July, saying planned federal aged care reforms would bring compliance, governance and legal responsibilities it could not meet. Other councils have also decided to leave the program.

Councillors will now consider keeping all three services, retaining Meals on Wheels alone, or proceeding with the original plan. No decision has been made, and in the meantime  services continue.
